Ayurvedic medicine strives to achieve optimal health by individuating specific dietary and lifestyle patterns based on the influence of the three doshas, or 'humors' of the body. The bodily humors are both responsible for maintaining health (when in balance) and are active in disease states (when imbalanced). According to Ayurvedic theory, each person is born with a certain proportion of the doshas, called your constitution or 'prakriti'. To help you determine your prakriti, please download and complete this questionnaire.

When the doshas are in an imbalanced state they give rise to the disease state ('vikriti'), which must be assessed by a properly trained Ayurvedic practitioner. Once the constitution and disease state has been determined, a specific regimen to balance the doshas is recommended. To find out more, please click on vata, pitta or kapha, to see a dietary and lifestyle guide to balance each.
