Physiology of Aging

Rejuvenation in Ayurveda

Rasayana is the method of disease prevention and life extension in Ayurveda, to strengthen the body and mind after the doshas have been eliminated or balanced. Although it can be used during the treatment of a disease, the best results are obtained when the body has been purified of ama (wastes), and the patient has undergone either shaemlmana chikitsa (balancing therapy) or pancha karma (purification).

Rejuvenation in TCM

Although not formalized to the same degree as it is in Ayurveda, rejuvenation and anti-aging medicine is clearly an important component of healing in TCM. Longevity and even immortality was claimed by the virtuous practitioners of the medical sciences in ancient China, and even the medicine itself has its divine origins in Sheng Nung, one of the three San Huang or three legendary emperors.
