Assessment

Assessment of the Pulse

Of all the techniques lauded in natural medicine, including the special utility of its various methods of assessment, there is perhaps nothing equal to the art and science of pulse diagnosis.  The three major traditions of medicine, which include Unani, TCM and Ayurveda, all maintain a system of pulse assessment.  Even the Western medical tradition has a history of pulse assessment, and in its heyday practitioners acclaimed as masters of the art.

Assessment of the Tongue

Since it is relatively easy to read the tongue is perhaps the most popular of the diagnostic techniques, and because it can be viewed in an objective fashion, is the basis for a fairly 'solid' body of information.  Like the pulse, the tongue has been used by all the medical traditions of the world, and once again, the basic principles usually seem to be in agreement, even if  specific elements can vary considerably.  Please login or register to see the full article

Assessment of the Stool

The state of the feces is universally regarded by many systems of traditional healing including Ayurveda and Chinese medicine as the most useful sign in determining digestive function, and as a result, the entire health of the body. Assessment of the Eye

There are several different methods of assessment when it comes to the eyes, including iridology and rayid, as well as the methods outlined in more traditional systems such as Ayurveda and TCM. Here we present a simple, more traditional model of eye examination that isn't as complex as iridology and rayid.  To examine the eyes, make sure the eyes are properly illuminated, such as in front of a well-lit bathroom mirror. In addition, a high-powered flashlight and 5X hand lens will assist in noting discrete features.

Assessment of Movement

People move their bodies in all kinds of ways, under the influence of different emotions, thoughts and situations. Sometimes these influences are temporary and sometimes they are chronic. Generally speaking, each person will have their own unique way of moving that is in part a reflection of their anatomical individualities (e.g. spinal misalignments, pronation, injuries, spasm etc.) as well as the consciousness that guides and shapes these movements.
